It was 25 December when my uncle showed me his camera early in the morning and explained every part of that machine to me. From that moment, I just fell in love with photography and film.
After 10 years of portraying and telling stories related to education, communities, and the environment around my home country Colombia, it was time for me to see and learn new things. Consequently, Australia has become my home for the last 8 years.
From weddings, family portraits and real state to my beloved documentary photography, I have been exploring different types of photography for over 10 years. Whether a photo or a clip, I am obsessed with daily life and capture it as a magical moment. During the past few years, my focus has been short videoclips and portraits related to refugees' communities, mainly located in Melbourne, Australia.
The mundanity in each person is my reason to capture. I have always enjoyed taking the time to look at moments and make them eternal with photography. Every day I fell in love with the simple act of living. However, that simplicity goes beyond human experience. We leave a trace within everything we interact with, from a small coffee bean to a classic old car; I believe everything holds soul to be portrayed.
In my years of experience as a professional photographer, I have improved and refined Essential skills such as working with a high volume of a workflow (Catalogues) and the ability to capture crucial moments at formal events. I have also gained the skill to handle any software designed to improve the image. I am comfortable working with Photoshop, Premiere and all Creative Adobe Suite. However, I use Capture One as my primary software editor for photography, and I excel at it.
Having a Major in Photography and a Master's in Community Development, besides the ongoing experience of being an immigrant, has enriched me with an understanding of the image as an essential tool of communication and expression and a unique language to connect the world.
